Three faculty members in the School of Education have been awarded Re-Assigned Time for 2010-11 to pursue professional activities.

Six Elon students presented papers Nov. 21 at the 5th Annual State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium held at UNC Wilmington. Several Elon faculty mentors accompanied the students.

Jean Rattigan-Rohr, assistant professor of education in the School of Education, authored an article titled “Blown Away: Parents and preservice teachers working together to help struggling readers.”

Ayesha Delpish, an assistant professor of mathematics, and Janice Richardson, an associate professor of mathematics, last month presented a session, "Service Learning Infusion in Mathematics: Statistics and Education," at the International Association for Research on Service-learning and Community Engagement in Canada.

Teaching Fellows at Elon have teamed with their counterparts at UNC Greensboro and N.C. A&T to collect canned goods as part of a contest against other North Carolina Teaching Fellows programs.

Deborah Long has been recognized by the North Carolina College Personnel Association (NCCPA) with its Outstanding Service in Support of the Student Affairs Profession Award. Long is a professor of education, director of the Elon Academy and coordinator of civic engagement.

Glenda Crawford, professor of education, and April Post, lecturer in foreign languages, presented a paper at the 9th International Research Conference on Service-Learning and Community Engagement, which was held Oct. 9-12, 2009, in Ottawa, Canada.

The School of Education held its Teacher Education Induction Ceremony on Oct. 13, 2009, in the Koury Business Center's LaRose Digital Theatre, a ceremony that recognized dozens of students as they take the next step in their path to the classroom after Elon.

Stephen Byrd, assistant professor of education, recently had two pieces he co-authored published in the The Child: An Encyclopedic Companion, published by The University of Chicago Press.

Dozens of high school seniors from around the region attended an informational event on campus Monday evening to learn more about the teaching profession from students and faculty in the Elon University School of Education.
