Middle school students share lessons of leadership

Some want to encourage more recycling. Others hope to start after-school clubs. Better cafeteria food. Fundraising for school supplies. Perhaps “Friday relaxation.” Local seventh graders shared ideas Wednesday to strengthen their school communities as part of an annual youth leadership program at Elon University.
Education and psychology faculty, alumni present research on service-learning

Three Elon University faculty members and two recent graduates presented research papers June 11 to the 5th Annual Symposium on Service Learning and Civic Engagement at Western Carolina University. Their focus was the use of academic service-learning to challenge the stereotypical views often held by teacher candidates about students and families living in poverty.

Four Elon University employees were recognized for superior scholarship, teaching, mentoring and service at the annual faculty-staff awards luncheon on May 13, 2009. Laura Roselle, Connie Book, Glenda Crawford and Keith Dimont were each selected for one of the highest accolades bestowed each year on faculty and staff.

The School of Education presented its annual awards May 1, with Paul Miller, professor of exercise science, receiving top honors for Excellence in Teaching and Bill Andrews, assistant professor of physical therapy education, receiving the Excellence in Service award.
