Several Elon University events commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks that changed the nation forever.

A solemn flag-lowering ceremony marked the beginning of Elon’s Sept. 11 observances.

Jeffrey C. Pugh, Maude Sharpe Powell Professor of Religious Studies, will be the featured speaker at College Chapel on Sept. 8 in Whitley Auditorium.

In an effort to welcome new students to campus and through the support of an anonymous gift to the university, Elon Hillel this summer launched a pilot project where a trio of student interns reached out to dozens of incoming freshmen with the goal of engaging them in the growing Jewish life on campus.

Elon University chaplain emeritus Richard McBride, Elon trustee Dr. William N.P Herbert ’68 and retired vice president Nan Perkins received Elon Medallions on Aug. 22, 2011, in an annual ceremony that celebrates the highest honor the university bestows on individuals for their meritorious service to the institution.
