This is the first day for collection of school supplies for K-12 students in Alamance County experiencing homelessness. Please support the education of young people in our county. This effort, which will continue through August 21, is co-sponsored by the SGA, the Staff Advisory Council, and the Office of The Dean of Students. More information about drop off procedures will be emailed to faculty and staff.
Events of Planning Week will begin in Elon University’s Alumni Memorial Gymnasium, Koury Athletic Center.

The mentoring design team has adopted a meaningful relationships framework that will acknowledge and support the relationships that both shape and drive the Elon community. Central to this groundbreaking framework is the understanding that there are many dynamic relationships that students, faculty and staff experience, including mentoring. This Boldly Elon priority will magnify the transformative power of learning-centered relationships at the core of an Elon education. Please join members of the mentoring design team to learn more about the emerging initiatives driving this framework forward and engage in a discussion about identifying institutionally transformative next steps. Participants will also be invited to offer reflections on the President’s remarks and to ask questions of the committee members.

This picnic allows all members of the Elon University Community to gather for food and conversation. Picnic will begin at Lakeside Patio. Seating options also include the Moseley Student Center and McKinnon.

3:30 p.m.-4:45 p.m. - Preparing for Sessions on “Being an Engaged Student"
Location: Global Commons 301
Intended Audience: All faculty who will be leading Engaged Learning Sessions.
On Monday, August 21, from 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 11:40 a.m.-12:40 p.m., first year and transfer students will meet in small groups, commonly referred to as “Engaged Learning Sessions.” These short sessions are part of the First-Year Experience at Elon and intentionally occur at the pivot point from New Student Orientation to the first day of classes. The primary goal of the “Being an Engaged Student” sessions is to allow students to practice the kinds of academic discussions and activities they will encounter in our classes. This workshop will be co-led by the associate directors of CATL and the Core Curriculum, and you’ll receive information about both what we’re learning about first-year student engagement and ideas for preparing students to (re) engage with learning as they set out on their Elon journeys.
4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. - Academic Council Standing Committee Chairs Meeting

Intended Audience: Open to chairs of 2023-24 Standing Committees
Chairs of 2023-24 Standing Committees will meet with Academic Council leaders and University Parliamentarians to discuss the chair’s roles and duties. Standing Committee Chairs are identified in the section of the Planning Week website titled “Directory”.
5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. - Reception for New Faculty and Staff - invitation only
Location: The Inn at Elon
Intended Audience: Open to all new faculty and staff (name tags with green or blue dots) at Elon University. An email invitation to this event (asking for an RSVP) will be sent from the Office of the President to those new faculty and staff who are invited.
