University Directory Photographs
For a new or replacement University Directory Photograph, University Communications takes directory portraits of faculty and staff in open sessions each month. No appointment is necessary, simply just drop in during a session that suits you. They are indoors and unmasked, so you must be fully vaccinated. The portraits are taken from chest up on a gray backdrop in a photo studio.
Location
The studio is located in the south end of Alumni Gym. Those arriving for portrait sessions should enter through the East Haggard Avenue entrance to Alumni Gym, and the studio is to the left.

Intended Audience: All faculty members planning, proposing, or teaching Core capstone seminars this academic year or in the near future.

The goal of the workshop is to provide understanding of student employment policies and processes to include recruiting, job posting, screening candidates, work agreements, payroll, orientation, onboarding, evaluations and termination. If you have questions you would like answered about student employment, please email questions ahead of time to Nancy Carpenter (ncarpenter4@elon.edu), by August 12th for inclusion in the discussion.

Intended Audience: All full-time faculty who are new to Elon this academic year RSVP (using this link) by Friday, August 12.
New faculty will meet with the President, interim Vice President of Academic Affairs, and with experienced Elon faculty to learn more about teaching and thriving at Elon and to prepare for the start of the academic year. The new faculty orientation program is facilitated by the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning; more details are online on the new faculty website.

Now that the faculty have overwhelmingly voted to approve the AER, the work is going to begin. This session will discuss how faculty, chairs, and deans can contribute to the significant university initiative. We’ll discuss curricular development, cluster hires, and opportunities to engage with communities of practice.

12:00 p.m.-1:15 p.m - Using the Common Reading, Factfulness, Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World--and Why Things Are Better Than You Think, by Hans Rosling with Ola Rosling and Anna Rosling Rönnlund
Location: McKinnon Hall, Moseley Center
Intended Audience: Designed for all faculty and staff working with first-year students, but open to all members of Elon University
This session will be useful for anyone interested in teaching with Factfulness or communicating with students about the book. Come share ideas or find inspiration in your colleagues. Instructors of COR 1100, ENG 1100, Elon 1010, MTH 1100, and other first-year courses are especially encouraged to attend. RSVP is appreciated for lunch/no lunch and will also help prepare any handouts by the presenters.
Lunch will be provided for faculty and staff members who RSVP by Thursday, August 11.
1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. - Black Lumen Project: A Focus on Black Labor
Location: Moseley 215
The goal of the session will be to: (1) give a brief overview of the activities and achievements from the inaugural year of the initiative; and (2) to introduce the current academic year aim of the initiative, which will be a focus on the history, current state, and future of Black labor at Elon. Specifically, participants will be invited to engage in constructive discussion and brainstorming about both challenges and advancements in supporting Black staff and faculty experiences. What might future collaborations across schools, offices, and departments at Elon look like? How does our knowledge around this topic also influence the ways we prepare Black-identified students for the labor market as well?
Participants are encouraged to read the joint BLP and HSM Juneteenth statement on the importance of recognizing Black Labor here.
2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. - Planning a Successful Event at Elon University
Location: Koeningsberger Learning Center 127
Intended Audience: Open to all faculty and staff
Join the Office of Event and Space Management team for a training focused on hosting successful on-campus events. During this time faculty and staff will have the opportunity to hear from event service partners who assist in making events happen. Training content will include but not limited to policies, procedures, practices, and resources that contribute to a successful event for event planners, guests, and the event services team.

his session will discuss upcoming priorities for the academic year and the implementation of initiatives described in Boldly Elon. President Book, Interim Provost Tadepalli, and Interim VPAA Peeples will share their thoughts and engage in Q&A from chairs, associate deans, and deans.
4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. - Honors Thesis New Mentor Meeting

Intended Audience: All Honors mentors are invited.
This session provides an overview of the Honors Program and expectations of faculty mentors. It is required for first-time faculty mentors and is open to potential mentors and anyone who has been a mentor before and would like a refresher.

Important information will be shared for new part-time faculty about teaching at Elon, including both expectations and resources available to you.
