Healthy Elon Covid-19 Testing
In line with recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, students, faculty and staff who have not submitted vaccination documentation must participate in weekly testing. Please see Testing on the Healthy Elon website for more information.
Changes to Staff and Faculty Vaccination and Weekly COVID-19 Testing
All staff and faculty who have not already submitted vaccination documentation are asked to do so immediately.
Staff and faculty who have not submitted vaccination documentation must complete weekly COVID testing on campus beginning August 16. Look for an upcoming email from Associate Vice President for Human Resources & Chief Human Resources Officer Kelli Shuman with more details.

8:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m. - Core Capstone Interest and Planning Meeting
Location: Zoom
Intended Audience: All faculty members planning, proposing, or teaching Core capstone seminars this academic year or in the near future.
Faculty members planning, proposing, or teaching Core capstones will discuss capstone projects and other matters of course content and pedagogy.
8:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m. - Meeting of STS 1100 Faculty
Location: Global Commons 204
Intended Audience: Geared to faculty who will teach STS 1100 in 2021-22, but open to all members of Elon University.
This meeting is for those who may teach STS 1100 in fall, winter, or spring. While the session will be primarily geared to the needs of new instructors and adjuncts, continuing instructors are welcome to attend.

Intended Audience: All faculty teaching ENG 1100.

Intended Audience: While we would love to cover additional developmental areas, this particular workshop will cover logistics. If you are interested in covering additional developmental topics and are interested in an employee resource group for student supervisors, please let Nancy Carpenter know (ncarpenter4@elon.edu).

The goal of the workshop is to provide understanding of student employment policies and processes to include recruiting, job posting, screening candidates, work agreements, payroll, orientation, onboarding, evaluations and termination. If you have questions you would like answered about student employment, please email questions ahead of time to Nancy Carpenter (ncarpenter4@elon.edu), by August 13th for inclusion in the discussion.

Intended Audience:
All full-time faculty who are new to Elon this academic year; RSVP (using this link) by Friday, August 13th.
New faculty will meet with the President, the Provost and Executive Vice President, and with experienced Elon faculty to learn more about teaching and thriving at Elon and to prepare for the start of the academic year. The new faculty orientation program is facilitated by the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning; more details are available online on the new faculty website.
10:15 a.m.-12:00 p.m. - Elon 101 New and Returning Faculty and Peer Educator (PE) Workshop

Intended Audience: All Elon 101 Instructors, Peer Educators, and Campus Partners.
Join your Elon 101 colleagues and PEs as we learn about new program initiatives, resources, and updates for fall 2021.
12:00 p.m.-1:15 p.m - Using the Common Reading, Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism, and You, by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi
Location: McKinnon Hall, Moseley Center
Intended Audience: Designed for all faculty and staff working with first-year students, but open to all members of Elon University.
This session will be useful for anyone interested in teaching with the Common Reading, Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism, and You or communicating with students about the book. Come share ideas or find inspiration in your colleagues. Instructors of COR 1100, ENG 1100, Elon 101, MTH 1100, and other first-year courses are especially encouraged to attend.
Lunch will be provided for faculty and staff members who RSVP by Thursday, August 12.
1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. - Black Lumen Project: an equity initiative
Location: Moseley 215
Participants will learn more from and engage with the Director of the Black Lumen Project: An Equity Initiative. The goal of the session will be to: introduce the initiative, the history of the work at Elon, and gain an overview of similar programs at other institutions. Simply, how do we advance equity at Elon through the Black Lumen Project? What might future collaborations across schools, offices, and departments at Elon look like? This session will be interactive and will make use of online platforms such as Padlet and Mentimeter to capture participant contributions through discussion and brainstorming. The Chair of the History and Memory committee will also co-facilitate.
1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m. - Faculty and Staff Leaders of Short-term Study Abroad and Study USA Courses
Location: Global Commons, 103
Intended Audience: Faculty and staff teaching short-term study abroad and study USA courses 2021-22.
This workshop is required of faculty and staff who will be leading a group short-term global course off-campus in 2021-2022, whether abroad or domestically. We will have guest speakers offer strategies on how to build responsible student behavior into your curriculum as well as reflection activities. 2:45 p.m.-3:45 p.m. - Meeting of Academic Leadership

Intended Audience: President, Provost, Associate and Assistant Provosts, Deans, Associate Deans, and Department Chairs.
This session will discuss upcoming priorities for the academic year and implementation of the Academic Affairs priorities stated in Boldly Elon. President Book and Provost Volety will share their thoughts and engage in Q&A from chairs, associate deans and deans.

This session provides an overview of expectations of the Honors Program and is required for any faculty member mentoring an Honors Fellow for the first time, and is encouraged for all mentors who have not worked with an Honors fellow in the past 2 years.
