Elon’s academic and administrative marks follow a consistent visual hierarchy that strengthens the overall university brand while giving units a clear, recognizable identity. Eligibility for an official unit mark is determined based on the list of Elon departments, offices, schools and centers maintained by the Office of Human Resources.
- If your unit is listed: You’re eligible for an official mark.
- If your unit is not listed: Use your umbrella department or office’s mark, or the primary Elon University marks for external communications.
Individual schools, departments, centers and offices may not create or use separate logos or visual identities outside of official unit signatures, nor should they modify the wording, layout or appearance of their official Elon marks. Doing so diminishes our professional image and can cause confusion about whether a group or program is officially part of the university. Sub-units may use internal custom graphics, but must include the official umbrella mark for all external communications.
Primary signatures must be used in all external communications. Secondary signatures are intended for very limited, internal use only.
For environmental signage (e.g., lobby walls, building identifiers), always use the secondary signature that includes the full unit’s name.
New sub-unit or internal program logos should not be created or used for signage or for external communications.
