What is the HEDS Sexual Assault Campus Climate Survey?

In spring of 2024, Elon University will be administering the HEDS Sexual Assault Campus Climate Survey. This will be administered to all Elon University students, and will ask students about their experiences (directly and as bystanders) of sexual assault, relationship abuse, stalking and harassment, as well as their perceptions of campus resources, and understandings of consent. HEDS is being implemented for the following purposes:

  1. Understanding students experiences with sexual assault, relationship abuse, stalking and harassment
  2. Understanding student perceptions of university resources in order to identify gaps in services
  3. Understanding bystander behavior amongst students to better target violence prevention efforts

Why should students take the HEDS Sexual Assault Campus Climate Survey?

  1. Your voice is important! The more students share with us, the better we will be able to improve response and prevention efforts based on student feedback.
  2. You’ll help to create a safer community! Again, with more feedback, we will be better able to understand what students’ current understandings of consent and how to intervene when they see harm or violence happening, which means we can better teach other Elon students on how to be strong community members and active bystanders.
  3. You might win a prize! While the answers to the actual HEDS survey will remain completely anonymous, students who complete the survey will receive a second link to enter themselves into prize drawings for five $100 gift cards, or some other bonus prizes.

How can students take the HEDS Sexual Assault Campus Climate Survey?

Students will receive a link for the survey in their email on February 12th, 2024. While the link requires Elon sign-in credentials, all responses will remain completely anonymous, the sign in credentials are just utilized to ensure that only Elon students are accessing the survey. Data will be sent directly to HEDS before being sent to any Elon staff members, and Elon staff members will only receive data in the aggregate.
