The Elon Chapter
of the Society of Professional Journalists sponsored a trip to the
Newspaper Diversity Job Fair, hosted by the Raleigh News & Observer
Oct. 24-26. The trip was coordinated by Leah Kessler, director of
internships and special projects for the School of Communications.
Representatives
from dozens of newspapers, from The New York Times to the Hendersonville,
N.C., News, were on hand to meet with students and talk about careers
in print journalism news, advertising and business departments.
Students were required to take an editing test, which was scored
before their interview sessions.
Annie Reilly,
Samiha Khanna, Crystal Allen, Steve Earley, Kathleen Frey and Erin
Cunningham were the Elon journalism majors who attended the annual
event. Khanna has already received a summer internship offer as
a result of interviews conducted at the job fair. She has been offered
a paid position this summer on the Metro desk of the Raleigh News
& Observer.
