Turkish and
American communications scholars gathered at Elon University and
the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill May 11-13 at a conference
titled "Communication in the Millennium."
Leading U.S.
scholars Max McCombs and Werner Severin of the University of Texas-Austin,
David Weaver of Indiana University and Donald Shaw of UNC joined
35 Turkish scholars at the events at Elon. Topics covered included
cinema/radio/TV, marketing communications, advertising, public relations,
media and communication theory and agenda-setting.
The Turkish-American
exchange of information has been taking place in a series of conferences
over recent years. The next meeting will take place at Anadolu University
in Turkey in 2006. The symposium is held to encourage a dialogue
between the two countries' communication scholars and make stronger
already established dialogues.
Dean Paul Parsons
and Associate Dean Brad Hamm welcomed the international scholars
and served as hosts. Professors Kelli Burns, Jessica Gisclair and
Glenn Scott served as session moderators, and Gerald Gibson served
as the technology resource person during the symposium at Elon.
