ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
What we believe
in
Our
communities need people who can accurately and compellingly tell
us about the world we live in. Amid great technological change,
Elon's School of Communications prepares students to serve the public
good through both traditional and new media.
We seek
to create an experiential learning environment so that students
become lifelong learners committed to excellence. It is our intent,
then, for students to:
- Understand
and appreciate both the theoretical and practical orientation
of their discipline.
- Develop
expertise in one of the emphases within the School: journalism,
broadcast and new media, corporate communications or cinema.
- Become proficient
in the basic communication skills of effective writing and speaking.
- Gain a foundation
in substantive areas of communications study such as media law,
ethics, history, technology and social impact.
- Establish
a broad intellectual grounding in the liberal arts and sciences
through General Studies and, where appropriate, minors in departments
outside of communications.
- Be dedicated
to truth and integrity, and respect deadlines, accuracy and professional
standards.
