All of the programs below are offered in the fall and spring semesters. With the exception of the Elon Centre Abroad programs in London, Florence and Costa Rica, all of these programs may be done for a year.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

In the Buenos Aires metropolis, students learn Spanish, international relations, political science and sociology at Universidad de Buenos Aires. All courses are taught in Spanish. Living with a host family heightens students’ cultural learning. This program is in affiliation with the Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE).

Perth, Australia

Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia is a culturally diverse setting in which Elon students are able to study numerous disciplines. One class taken during a semester at Curtin must be a culture class in Aboriginal or Australian Studies.

Wiener Neustadt, Austria

Sharing borders with eight other countries, Austria is in the heart of Europe.  The City of Wiener Neustadt is situated in the eastern part of the country and is easily accessible from all directions.  The University of Applied Sciences is located about 35 minutes from Vienna, Austria.  Students can take classes in Business, Communications, Journalism and a variety of other disciplines.  Courses are taught in English.

Beijing, China

Take Chinese and study in English at The Beijing Center. Beijing has existed as a city for well over three thousand years, yet reflects not only China's rich history but its modern growth and development as well. Take classes in a variety of disciplines including Business, Asian Studies, Communication, Natural Science, Art, Philosophy, Political Science and Theology. The program includes expeditions and day trips to places such as The Silk Road, The Forbidden City, and The Ancient Capitals. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to study outside the Western realm.

Elon University in San Jose, Costa Rica

In addition to its natural beauty, Costa Rica is an ideal location in which to study the rapid social, cultural, economic, political and environmental changes that face much of the developing Latin American world. The program is based in the capital, San Jose, and includes many opportunities and activities to enjoy Costa Rica's natural wonders as well as to learn about many of the issues that face contemporary Latin America.
    This program is offered during both the fall and spring semesters, and is coordinated by Elon University in association with the Institute for Central American Studies (ICAS).  In addition to studying Spanish, courses taught in English will include General Studies, Business, Political Science and Environmental Science. No previous Spanish required. Students will live with host families in the capital city of San Jose and study with Costa Rican professors (and one Elon professor). Numerous excursions to places like the Monteverde Cloud forest, Arenal Volcano, hot springs, waterfalls and banana plantations are included in the program costs.  A short trip to Nicaragua is also be included.

ICDS in Costa Rica

The International Center for Development Studies (ICDS) allows students to study Central American issues, development issues, international studies and environmental studies. Classes are small and hands-on. Students take placement tests to see which level of Spanish Language courses they will take. All courses except language are taught in English.

Copenhagen, Denmark

This Scandinavian program allows students to explore a variety of disciplines through special topics courses like marine biology and Nordic mythology. International business, humanities, communications and the social sciences are excellent topics to study on this program. Students may live with host families or in student housing. Dominican Republic

Santiago de los Caballeros, the second largest city in the Dominican Republic, is surrounded by mountains. In Santiago students will take a Spanish Language course and chose from History, Literature, Communications and Social Science classes.  Students also have the opportunity to take a community service class.  All classes are taught in Spanish and students live with a host family. This program is in affiliation with the Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE).

Elon's longest-running semester program, Studies in London gives students the opportunity to experience one of the most dynamic cities in the world by choosing from five semester-long courses as well as excellent internship and volunteer opportunities.
    The Semester in London is operated solely by Elon University.  Anglo-American Educational Services provides housing and classroom facilities and oversees Elon's semester internships in London.

Catholic University of Lyon is in Lyon, France which is the third largest French city and is a major centre of business, situated between Paris and Marseille.  Students take French Language courses and electives in Business, International Relations, Philosophy, History and Social Sciences.  Some courses are taught in French while other courses are taught in English.

Aachen, Germany

Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) Aachen University is located in the city of Aachen, Germany.  The city of Aachen is located on the Western border of Germany near Belgium and the Netherlands.  Students take a German Language course and electives in Business, International Relations, Philosophy, and Social Sciences.  Some courses are taught in German while other courses are taught in English.

Heidelberg, Germany

For centuries, Heidelberg's charm has attracted admirers from all over the world. It is also the classic German student city, bustling with a wide range of cultural activities. Heidelberg is located on the Neckar River in southwestern Germany, one of the sunniest and warmest corners of the country. Students will study the German language and, depending upon their language level, enroll in courses at the University taught completely in German.

Ghana gained its independence from Great Britain in 1957 and is striving to incorporate democratic principles into government and society. The University of Ghana at Legon is one of the country's best universities and offers a wide variety of courses for many majors.

Dublin, Ireland

Ireland is the third largest island in Europe.  Dublin, the capital and largest city in Ireland, has much to offer as the major cultural center of Ireland.  Students will take courses in Irish Culture and Society as well as courses in Business, Communications, Psychology, Philosophy and other disciplines. This program is in affiliation with the Foundation for International Education.

Elon in Florence, Italy (NEW!!)

Florence is known for being the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, making it an epicenter for art and architecture.  Florence is capital city of the region of Tuscany and bustling with commerce and culture.  Situated on the national railway lines, it is extremely accessible to cities all over Europe.     
This program is offered during both the fall and spring semesters, and is coordinated by Elon University in association with Accademia Europea di Firenze.  In addition to studying Italian, courses taught in English will include General Studies, Art History, Political Science and Contemporary Italian History. Private Art Studio and Music instruction is available for an additional fee.  No previous Italian is required.

In the heart of Tuscany, Perugia is home to over 100,000 students. Elon students study art, literature, social sciences, archaeology and Italian language at the Umbra Institute. In this unique program, students examine native wildlife and see how management techniques help local cultures and economies in Kenya. Baja, Mexico

This is a unique opportunity to study wide variety of marine and coastal life in Mexico. Sea lions, sea turtles and many other extraordinary animals and plants make up this diverse but threatened natural refuge. This program is in affiliation with the School for Field Studies (SFS).

Cracow, Poland

Study the dynamics of the European Union in this beautiful Polish City.  Cracow Escaped much of the destruction of World War II, and thus retains its beautiful architecture and historic atmosphere.  Students can choose from courses in Business, Economics, Accounting and more.  Students must take a Polish Language class.  Classes are taught in English.

South Africa

Explore South Africa through this partnership with Duke University's Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS). South Africa’s rich biological and cultural diversity make it an exceptional location in which to examine issues related to ecology and conservation. Based in Kruger National Park, field study and research exercises will expose you to different types of savanna as you view the park’s abundant wildlife. Courses include South African Ecosystems and Diversity, Field Research in Savanna Ecology, Conservation and Management of Protected Areas in South Africa, and History and Culture of South Africa.

Madrid, Spain

Madrid is the capital of Spain and the largest city in Spain.  It is located on the Manzanares River in the center of the country.  Students take a Spanish Language class and can choose from electives in many areas including Hispanic Culture and Civilization and Humanities.  Spanish Language classes are taught in Spanish and other classes may be taught in English or Spanish.  Students can live in apartment-style accommodations or live with a host family. This program is in affiliation with the Foundation for International Education.

Seville, Spain

The romantic city of Seville, capital of Andalusia, was one of the last footholds of the great Moorish empire that ruled the Iberian Peninsula.  For a city of fewer than 800,000 people, Seville offers an amazing choice of cultural activities, from flamenco theaters to classical, pop, and jazz concerts.  Students take a Spanish Language class as well as electives in Business, Communications, Education, History, Science and many more.  Classes are taught in Spanish. This program is in affiliation with the Council for International Education Exchange (CIEE).

Toledo, Spain

Toledo, just outside of Madrid, is a beautiful, culturally rich World Heritage City. The program at Fundacion Jose Ortega y Gasset is for students with Spanish Language training above the 300 level. All courses are taught in Spanish. Subjects include language training, literature, history, philosophy and political science. This program is in affiliation with Arcadia University.

One of the five largest countries in Europe, Sweden offers much for international study. Kristianstad University, surrounded by water and green oasis, welcomes about 200 international students each semester to mix with 7000 Swedish students.

Turks and Caicos Islands
