Calhoun Story Represents California in 50 States Project

A short story by School of Communications professor Kenneth Calhoun has been selected to represent California in Ballyhoo Stories 50 States Project. The story, called "Animal Past," is a fictional account of a biracial family, set in the suburbs of Los Angeles, where Calhoun was born and raised.

As described in the Ballyhoo Blog, the story is about “two teenagers in California hunting snakes, one who wishes he could be someone else while the other must pretend he is someone he's not.”

The Ballyhoo Stories 50 States Project seeks "to collect one story or essay with each state as either the subject or setting." The stories are presented in a unique interactive format that allows the reader to experience page turns online.
