|Elon PRSSA Chapter Hosts Successful Conference|
The university’s Public Relations Student Society of America chapter hosted a regional conference last weekend on international public relations. Titled “The PR Amazing Race,” the day-long event included speaker sessions, a case study competition, and a “race” through Brazil, Russia, India and China. Another highlight was the etiquette luncheon focusing on China featuring Visiting Professor Michael Wang.
One of 14 schools chosen nationally, Elon PRSSA is proud to announce that the event was a tremendous success. The average attendance at a regional conference is around 30, and the chapter hosted over 50 students from throughout the region, including UNC-Chapel Hill, Virginia Tech and East Carolina. Speakers included Assistant News Director for High Point Fox 8 Angela Robbins and Steve Powell, vice president of public relations at Bouvier Kelly in High Point.
Kat Dodson, the chapter’s national liaison, coordinated the entire conference including coming up with the theme of the event. Other executive board members that aided in the effort included Publicity Chair Caroline Matthews, Entertainment Chair Laurie Montanus and Logistics Chair Craig Orsi. We would like to extend a special thank you to Lee Bush, Ocek Eke and Glenn Scott for conducting speaker sessions and for PRSSA members who helped with the event.
With over 120 members, Elon PRSSA is not only one of the largest chapters in the nation but also one of the most decorated. The chapter placed third overall in Bateman Competition last year, received the Pace Setter award in 2006, has presented developmental sessions at two national conferences and was named one of the three most decorated chapters when it received five awards at the 2007 National Conference in Philadelphia.
