Why is annual giving important at Elon?
Annual gifts from alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff and friends provide a vital source of revenue for university operations. Annual gifts, which are received and spent in the same year, go to work immediately to support the best of Elon—quality academics, student scholarships, outstanding faculty, premier facilities and distinctive opportunities such as the Elon Experiences (study abroad, internships, undergraduate research, service learning and leadership opportunities). Elon’s fiscal year runs June 1-May 31.
What difference can my gift make?
Plenty. Collectively, donors contributed more than $5.5 million in cash gifts to the annual funds during 2011-2012. All gifts make a difference to Elon students. For example, gifts under $50 brought in nearly $150,000 to the university during 2011-2012, while gifts of $100 or less totaled more than $520,000.
What is this year's annual giving goal?
Elon seeks to raise $5.83 million in annual gifts during 2012-2013 and to increase the alumni participation rate to 22 percent. Currently, 19 percent of alumni make annual gifts to the university, which is far below that of many peer institutions. Strong alumni participation in annual giving is a valuable measure of Elon pride and satisfaction. It also is a factor in college rankings and the amount of financial support the university receives from foundations.
