Mynt showcases fashion at discounted prices

Jacquie Anderson / Reporter

When in search of some of the trendiest brands, many girls on campus venture -to the Elon clothing store Mynt at 108 W. Lebanon Ave. While some shop at Mynt  for its intimate atmosphere and one-of-a-kind selection, others might have been scared off by rumors of budget blowing prices.

In honor of spring fashion, students Meghan Harahan and Brianna Wolf along with store owner Whitney Brown, hosted "Coconut Couture" on April 20, a special event designed for the student body to have an exclusive look at the clothing line while enjoying discounted prices up to 15 percent off of Mynt's new spring merchandise.

The event was held after Mynt's usual store hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for attendees to experience an undisturbed shopping experience. Guests enjoyed drinks and an assortment of appetizers and sweets while browsing the store's selection.

The guests who attended were mostly  women involved in Greek life on campus; some of whom are frequent shoppers, while others visited and made purchases for the first time. Popular items bought by many of the shoppers were dresses for graduation, a new pair of jeans or flip-flops in assorted colors.

"I am impressed with how well the student body responded to the ads on campus and the amount of money the event brought in for the store,"

Harahan said. "Whitney was also a big help when it came to figuring out the direction we wanted to go with everything."

Brown enjoys throwing these events because they provide a causal atmosphere to the shopping experience as well as advertisement for the store.

Brown doesn't advertise in local publications but relies on word of mouth and wearing the clothing sold in her store as a method of showing off her merchandise. Brown is adamant about dispelling the misconception that her store has a limited selection and high prices.

"Many people think that everything in here is really expensive but some of my items sell for as little as $14 and I work extra hard to order into the store what my customer wants," she said. "I also order things for my customers if they want a certain item or need a different size."

Brown is looking to expand her store in the near future to carry more brands including some lesser known names as well as including more accessories and shoes. Her current inventory includes brands like Lacoste, Rock & Republic, Juicy Couture, Nanette Lepore and BCBG.

She also hosts her own special events that offer seasonal discounts, and there are always two racks of sale items with some of the sample pieces selling for almost 50 percent off.
