The 2012 Internet Society Global INET
20th anniversary event focuses on imagining
the future Internet as ISOC aims for access for all

The Internet Society, home to key organizations in the process of building the Internet and extending its capabilities as billions more people get online and learn, innovate and share, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2012. ISOC's mission is "to promote the open development, evolution and use of the Internet for the benefit of all people throughout the world." One slogan for the anniversary conference was "Connect. Collaborate. Celebrate!" as hundreds of policy makers, technologists, government representatives, business executives and civil society leaders discussed the impact of the Internet, past, present and future, at the events of the Global INET conference in Geneva, Switzerland, April 22-24. Key activities of the events of INET included: working together to identify and address critical topics that will shape the future of the Internet; networking with other leaders, Internet pioneers and futurists; participating in strategy discussions; and honoring key Internet contributors who were named to the inaugural class of the Internet Hall of Fame. A multimedia journalism team from the Imagining the Internet Center at Elon University assembled accounts of the major action.
