During her distinguished 24-year career as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Sandra Day O’Connor often cast the deciding vote in significant issues of public debate, including those concerning abortion and affirmative action and the challenge to the 2000 presidential election. Her record is a tribute to her keen intellect, pragmatism, and dedication to the judicial process. As the first woman appointed to the Supreme Court, she is without a doubt one of the most influential women in the history of the United States.
