Do I need camping experience to go on this?
No! DISCOVERY is purposely geared for both the experienced and the inexperienced camper to be able to enjoy.
What about scholarships or financial aid?
Some need-based scholarships are available. For further information, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org and include the specific program in which you are interested.
Who participates in DISCOVERY?
DISCOVERY is specifically designed for first-year students. Participants will be 20 students who are entering Elon in the Fall. Transfer students are welcome and should contact us for further information.
Who are the facilitators and staff?
The facilitators are current Elon students. All facilitators are CPR and First Aid certified. Additionally, two Elon professional staff members will be on site and travel with the group.
How is DISCOVERY different from the other summer programs?
DISCOVERY is a unique experience that combines the leadership styles learned in Adventures in Leadership with the community service emphasized in Engage. We incorporate vital activities and discussions into the week that will help to ease your transition to Elon.
Are there shuttles from the regional airports?
Yes, there will be shuttles to pick up all students who are flying in. Please make your arrival time in Greensboro or Raleigh no later than 11 a.m. on Saturday. If you need transportation to or from the airport, please notify us in your detailed registration form (sent once accepted into the program) or call/e-mail your information to (336) 278-7000 or email@example.com.
If I'm flying, when should I make my return flight?
DISCOVERY participants should make their flight home for Friday either from Greensboro or Raleigh. Please make all flight arrangements departing after 11 a.m. on Friday. Shuttles will leave campus between when needed.
Do we sleep in tents the whole time?
With the exception of two nights on-campus, Yes! we are in tents.
Should I bring a tent if I have one?
Yes! We have tents for people who do not have one, but if you have your own we welcome the addition. Please let us know if you will be bringing a tent if you have one, and a tarp for it if possible. A 2-3 person tent is preferred.
Where is check-in?
Registration will be held on-campus. Specific location TBD.
When is check-in?
The afternoon of Saturday, June 25. Specific time tbd. Lunch will not be provided this day; please plan accordingly to eat before you arrive.
If needed, when should I have my parents pick me up afterward?
The program concludes on Friday, July 1. Your parents should pick you up by 11am on July 1.
What should I wear when I get to Elon?
You should arrive dressed for fun. We will have activities the first night you arrive so be sure to wear something comfortable, including shoes! There will be time to change, if needed.
What if I get sick and have to back out of the trip?
If you get sick before the trip and cannot come, we will call down the waiting list to try to find someone to take your spot. However, we cannot reimburse your money unless we find a replacement.
