In today’s information age, people are bombarded with hundreds of visual images and messages daily. Successful organizations know that it is important to build and maintain a strong visual identity that will cut through the visual “clutter” and be recognized instantly and positively by key audiences. The successful outcome of branding is the creation of an immediate recognition and emotional connection with desired audiences.
In our visual environment, it is crucial that the university’s communications present a professional and uniform image. The graphic identity of Elon University's brand is created through the use of specific graphic elements, typography and color. By consistently following graphic identity standards, we continually reinforce the university’s brand, reach new audiences and mutually benefit from Elon’s reputation for excellence. The existence of these standards does not mean that all materials must look exactly alike. However, the standards call for materials to demonstrate a common resemblance, with some elements that tie programs and departments of the university together.
It is also important to note that consistency in visual identity also protects the institution’s patents, licenses and trademarks, and increases the long-term value of its identity.
As you develop print publications and post material online on behalf of Elon University, please adhere to the standards in this manual. If you have specific questions, please contact the Office of University Communications.
