It Takes a Village Programs

The Village Project began in 2008 through a partnership between Elon University, and a matching grant from the Oak Foundation. Sixteen third-grade students participated the first year. Today there is a waiting list of students hoping to join the more than 300 Village participants who participate in weekly tutoring sessions held at Title I schools in the Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS).

The Village Project

Individualized instruction for Kindergarten through 5th-grade students in a non-threatening setting. Occurs weekly in the fall & spring at our Title I Partner Schools.

  • Volunteers will have the opportunity to support students through one-on-one or small-group tutoring in reading and math. ABSS teachers provide structured lesson plans and supervision to ensure an effective and supportive learning environment.

The Little Village

Aimed at pre-kindergarten children, the Little Village focuses on children’s language development and early academic skills. Occurs weekly at Haw River in the fall & spring for Pre-K Students.

Music in the Village
