Scholarships and Awards

Most of the scholarships below are endowed scholarships, and the generous donors set the criteria. The specific amount of each scholarship varies, but most are in the range of $1,000 – $2,000. When it requests your GPA, it is asking for your cumulative GPA.

Trey Hawker Memorial Scholarship

Trey Halker, a transfer student from Arizona State University, graduated from Elon in 1996 with a degree in sports medicine. Trey loved Elon. He lived off campus in an apartment on Trollinger Avenue during his years at Elon. At the time of his death, he worked for Cisco Systems, the leading supplier of networking equipment and network management for the Internet. With his wife Linda, Trey had three children: stepchildren Erica and James Kiechlin, a business administration major in Elon’s Class of 2010; and Samantha Halker.

This scholarship will be awarded to deserving students majoring in exercise/sport science. Financial need is not a requirement but may be taken into consideration.

Joyce Davis Endowed Scholarship

  • The Joyce Davis Endowed Scholarship for Exercise Science at Elon University is a financial aid opportunity designed to support students with financial need. This award was established to recognize the life-changing mentorship Professor of Exercise Science Joyce Davis provided to their daughter, Megan Bausch ’18. The endowment gift from Gregory and Shelley Bausch P’16 and P’18 of Arizona ensures exercise science majors have access to Elon Experiences in internships and undergraduate research.

Here are the guidelines for applying for this scholarship:

  • Eligibility: Open to exercise science majors who demonstrate financial need and are actively pursuing internships and/or undergraduate research experiences.
  • Notification: Recipients are notified in May, with their scholarship applied to their Elon account for the following academic year.

Cavaretta Endowed Grant

The Daniel Cavarretta ’19 Endowment for Undergraduate Research shall be used to support Elon University students engaged in rigorous faculty-mentored undergraduate research in the field of exercise science. Selection of the recipient(s) shall be made by the Chair of the Department of Exercise Science in consultation with the Office of Financial Aid and the Director of Undergraduate Research.

The Daniel Cavarretta Endowed Grant will be awarded to a junior pursuing a faculty mentored research project and the funding in the amount of $2000 can be used during the students’ remaining time at Elon. The funds from the Endowed Grant must be primarily used for project advancement and not conference travel.

Application deadline: The form should be submitted between March 1 and April 15 annually.
