Two faculty members from universities in the United Kingdom will teach courses at Elon University during the next academic year. They are among 47 British scholars who will teach in the United States in 2016-17 as part of the US-UK Fulbright Commission exchange program.

David Baker, senior lecturer in criminology at Coventry University in Coventry, England, will teach during fall semester. He earned a doctorate in criminology, studying how accountability is constructed in death investigations after police contact in England and Wales. As well as teaching criminology, Baker will be adding to his research by looking at how death after police contact affects citizens in the United States.

Justin Edwards will teach courses at Elon in literature.
Justin Edwards, professor of English literature in the School of English and Languages at the University of Surrey in Guildford, England, will teach during spring semester. He has a master’s degree and doctorate in English from the University of Montreal as well as a doctoral dissertation on 19th century U.S. travel writing. Edwards also taught at the University of Copenhagen, where he was appointed associate professor in 2002. A dual British and Canadian citizen, he is the author of several books, including “Mobility at Large, Postcolonial Travel Writing, Gothic Canada and Gothic Passages.” In the United States, Edwards will continue his research on the relationship between contemporary transnational fiction and travel writing.

The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers the only bi-national transatlantic academic awards program between the United States and the United Kingdom. Each year around 50 UK and 50 U.S. citizens are awarded scholarships or grants to study, lecture, conduct research, or focus on professional development at a variety of leading institutions.
