“My hope is that the funds raised in my honor will continue to support the next generation of higher education professionals determined to make our educational institutions more equitable and just,” said McElderry.

McElderry’s contributions to student affairs and student development include 14 publications, conference presentations and an upcoming book, which have established him as a thought leader in student personnel and college student development. His research focuses on increasing the awareness of historically excluded students’ experiences at predominately white institutions and providing strategies to improve their academic and social success.

The American College Personnel Association (ACPA) strives to advance student affairs, engage students and provide professional development for individuals within student affairs. The ACPA Leadership Foundation is a subset of ACPA. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the ACPA Foundation strives to enhance the student affairs profession and support the priorities and activities of ACPA by raising funds and developing resources.

Additionally, McElderry serves on the governing board of ACPA – College Student Educators International as the director of equity and inclusion. He is also a co-lead facilitator for the LeaderShape Institute, and serves as an editorial board member for the “Journal of African American Males in Education.”

All funds raised in honor of the Diamond Honorees will be utilized to sustain the ACPA Foundation, and support research, programming and scholarship. Honorees are invited to celebrate their accomplishments during the 2023 ACPA convention in March 2023 in New Orleans.
