Jesse Gordon '26 serves as an editorial intern at Sports Business Journal.
Journalism major Jesse Gordon ’26 was recently published in Sports Business Journal (SBJ) with an article, titled “Closing Shot: Hawaiian Hoops,” highlighting the 40th anniversary of the Maui Invitational.
Gordon is part of the fall Study USA Elon in Charlotte Sport and Community Experience where students live, take classes, intern, network with alumni and industry professionals and engage in enrichment activities. Gordon is an editorial intern at SBJ.
“My time at Sports Business Journal was transformational,” Gordon said. “Writing this piece allowed me to translate the skills I’ve learned in the classroom to a meaningful contribution in a highly regarded publication. Appreciating my fandom of college basketball, my editor, David Bourne, assigned me this piece at the beginning of November. He connected me with Tom Valdiserri, executive vice president at Kemper Sports LIVE, the organization that operates the Maui Invitational. From there, I conducted an interview with Mr. Valdiserri to learn more about this year’s tournament. I then wrote the piece and collaborated with Mr. Bourne during the editorial process.”
Gordon was excited about the opportunity and was grateful for the support of Elon faculty.
“To see my name on a byline was special,” Gordon said. “I credit the journalism faculty at Elon for helping to prepare me and giving me confidence for this opportunity. I am excited to expand my network at SBJ and see the Elon in Charlotte program grow in the years to come.”
Summer and fall 2025 applications for Study USA programs are open. The final deadline is February 1. Enrollment is limited. Contact the GEC global@elon.edu or visit the GEC website to learn more.
