Get involved with the Office of Sustainability

The Office of Sustainability offers a variety of events and programs for students, faculty and staff to engage with and learn more about sustainability, including events, on-campus organizations and employment opportunities.

The Office of Sustainability is excited for students, faculty and staff  to get involved with events and programs offered throughout the year, and the Office has several opportunities for students looking to engage with peers passionate about sustainability, including the Sustainability Stewards program, which meets monthly and provides students with opportunities to build community and engage in various service projects.

The Sustainable Living LLC connects students passionate about sustainability across all majors to live together residentially while engaging and interacting in both academic and social manners.

“The LLC was the perfect place – we built such a special community and supported each other in building sustainable habits,” said Anna Keller, Collonades eco-rep and former ambassador for the Sustainability LLC. “I’m currently in the LLC again as a sophomore, and I’m excited to be part of the LLC community again.”

Of her experience as an Eco-Rep, she noted, “I’ve met so many incredible people and continue to form connections.”

Additionally, students may attend events or volunteer through sustainable organizations on campus, including the Elon Community Garden, Student Sierra Coalition and Animal Protection Alliance. For students looking for employment opportunities, the Office of Sustainability offers several paid positions throughout the academic year, including Eco-Reps, who serve as peer educators and ambassadors for sustainability on campus, and a variety of internship opportunities.

For faculty and staff members looking to get involved with sustainability, the Sustainability Employee Resource Group provides employees with knowledge on how they can help to cultivate a more sustainable workplace. The Sustainability Faculty Scholars is a program that aims to recognize faculty members who incorporate a broad range of topics related to sustainability into their courses and awards a $1,000 stipend to selected applicants. Participants will have opportunities to attend workshops to learn more about sustainability while connecting with past scholars and other faculty members.
