Elon Academy announces fourth class of scholars

Twenty-six rising sophomores from the Alamance-Burlington School System have been selected to join the fourth class of scholars in the Elon Academy, a college access and success program for academically talented students held each year on the Elon University campus.

The abduction and abuse of children for the use of child soldiering is an epidemic in parts of Africa, and when Elon University senior Katie Meyer first heard stories of forced conscription as a senior in high school, she took action. Meyer is the eighth student to be featured in a series of E-net profiles on the inaugural class of Lumen Scholars.

An original play written by assistant professor Jean Rohr will be performed April 30-May 2, 2010, by the North Carolina Black Repertory Company in Winston-Salem.
