Elon President Leo M. Lambert presented the medallion to five retired faculty and staff members for their meritorious service to the university during an event marking the start of a new academic year. The university also recognized four endowed professorships and two longtime professors were named Distinguished University Professors. 

Kathy Matera, a professor of chemistry, will spend the next two years as the Japheth E. Rawls Professor for Undergraduate Research in Science. 

A manuscript coauthored by Jen Dabrowski, assistant professor of chemistry, on conversion of sugars was featured as an Organic Chemistry Highlight on Organic Chemistry Portal.

Assistant Professor of Chemistry Justin Clar has published a research article on  the absorption of surfactant molecules to single-wall carbon nanotubes. 

The chemistry department hosted its annual picnic and awards ceremony on Monday, May 8, and recognized outstanding achievements and academic excellence.

At the annual Faculty/Staff Lunch on May 10, the Elon community honored six faculty members who are retiring his year. 

Experimental Biology is the annual meeting of six societies comprised of more than 14,000 scientists and 50 guest societies.

Cheek, who faithfully served Elon for more than three decades in the Department of Chemistry, died May 2.

Six faculty and 11 students from the Department of Chemistry attended the national meeting in early April, giving a total of thirteen presentations.
