Elon’s Department of Performing Arts has earned a strong national reputation for conservatory-style training grounded in the liberal arts and sciences. We offer pre-professional Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Acting, Dance and Music Theatre, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatrical Design and Production led by a vibrant faculty that combines years of international professional experience with a passion for teaching. Our programs accept a limited amount of new majors each year so you will receive the personal, one-on-one attention necessary for you to develop and realize your potential.
We also offer a B.A. degree in Theatre Studies. This open-enrollment degree program is more flexible than the pre-professional programs, allowing students to explore double-majors in addition to studying the art form they love.
Additionally, we offer a Bachelor of Arts in Arts Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Dance Science. No audition is required for either degree program.
In our field, there is no substitute for production experience. Throughout your academic career at Elon, you will have the chance to participate on stage and behind the scenes in a variety of productions, from major faculty-directed productions to student-directed shows, ensembles and workshops.
Our department is housed in the Center for the Arts, a 75,000-square-foot facility specifically designed for teaching and performance. The Center for the Arts includes the 575-seat McCrary Theatre, 125-seat Yeager Recital Hall and 100-seat Black Box Theatre, in addition to three dance studios, modular practice rooms and studios, scenery and costume shops, and much more.
Many of our students leave our program with professional credits on their resumes. Through internships, summer theatre, dance work and other opportunities, you will develop significant real-world experience before you graduate from Elon.
Explore our site to learn more about the particular majors you are interested in and contact us with any questions. We invite you to join our dynamic department!
