    Assistant Director of Regional Engagement
    Martin Alumni Center 103
2605 Campus Box Elon, NC 27244

I grew up in Cary, North Carolina, before moving on to receive a degree in ancient history and sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012 and then a master’s degree on education in college student affairs administration from the University of Georgia in 2014. While much of my training is with students, I have always had a passion for the impact that an institution of higher education can have on its students and alumni long after they’ve left campus.

In my role as assistant director of regional alumni engagement I work in partnership with 150-plus alumni volunteers in 35 alumni chapters and clubs to bring Elon to our alumni, the majority of whom are living far outside of Elon. Through the chapters and clubs, Evenings for Elon, Faculty Conversations, and many more regional programs, I work to ensure alumni are provided the opportunity to remain engaged with Elon regardless of how many miles separate them from their alma mater. If you are interested in getting involved in your local alumni chapter or club, or in creating these opportunities for alumni in your area, please do not hesitate to be in touch with me.

A 2015 Elon University graduate, I majored in political science and minored in international studies and leadership studies. I was also part of the Isabella Canon Leadership Fellows program. As a student, I split my time across several student organizations-including Kappa Delta Sorority, Senior Class Giving and Campus Recreation. During my junior year, I was chosen to be an Executive Intern for Elon’s Executive Vice President, Dr. Gerald Francis. During my time as an intern, I researched and analyzed how Elon and other schools prepare students to study abroad for semester long programs. This hands-on experience peaked my interest in higher education, which led me to also intern in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

In my role as program assistant, I assist with the successful completion of alumni events and programs including Evening for Elon, Homecoming, legacy events, Elon Alumni Board and Young Alumni Council meetings, award programs and senior class events and celebrations. Additionally, I supervise and provide direction for our student worker staff. Before joining Elon in 2012, I was the human resources director for New Hampshire Audubon. Prior to that, I was in human resources administration in New Hampshire and Florida.

My son, Grant De Roo ’12 MBA’15, received undergraduate and graduate degrees from Elon. He was married in June 2015 to another Elon alumna, Stephanie Quinn De Roo, and they are now residing in Iowa. My daughter, Blair De Roo, is a current transfer student at Elon and is expected to graduate in 2016.  She is currently in New York City as part of the Study USA program. We are a proud Elon legacy family!

Assistant Director of Homecoming and Special Events
    Martin Alumni Center 204
2605 Campus Box Elon, NC 27244

I graduated from Elon University in 2013 with a degree in strategic communications and minors in dance and international studies. My time outside of the classroom was primarily dedicated to Alpha Omicron Pi and Student Alumni Council. I also interned in various local organizations. I was very fortunate to study abroad over two Winter Terms as part of an indigenous studies course in Perth, Australia and a service-learning course in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa. My transformational experiences as an Elon student sparked my desire to be a lifelong learner and gave me the opportunity to develop the leadership skills necessary to becoming a successful and well-rounded global citizen.

I began working for the university two weeks after my undergraduate graduation and spent two years traveling—from Florida to Massachusetts to California—developing relationships with our incredible alumni in my role as an alumni engagement officer. In June 2015, I transitioned into my current role as the coordinator of alumni engagement and special events. My primary responsibilities include the management of Homecoming weekend and our Social Media Ambassador alumni volunteer program. I am passionate about Elon and confident in the bright future of this university!

As a native of North Carolina, I’ve always admired Elon and feel privileged to work for a university that develops global citizens, informed leaders and loyal alumni. I was born and raised in Raleigh, but lived more recently in Atlanta before transitioning back to my childhood home. I earned my degree in communication studies from Appalachian State University, and my master’s degree in college student affairs administration from the University of Georgia. Higher education has always been a passion of mine and I bring more than five years of experience in alumni relations and student affairs work, including student and alumni programming, student leadership development, volunteer management and event planning.

In my role as assistant director of alumni relations, I oversee our affinity networks and manage alumni student programming and events. We are always seeking new opportunities to engage alumni through our affinity programs, so please feel free to contact me if you’re interested in knowing more or getting involved within any of our groups.
