College is a time of change, growth and transition. The emphasis is on learning during this time in your life, but college is also a time to explore your ability to cope with stress, adapt to change, form relationships, balance work and play, and make personal decisions.
Counseling Services provides clinical assessments and crisis intervention to students in psychological distress. Counseling Services provides psychological support and clinical collaboration for Elon University students in the context short-term, solution-focused therapeutic modalities.
Counselors utilize a brief, strengths-based model in their work with students. Counselors work with students who need more long-term, specific, or comprehensive care to a variety of clinical practitioners in the community including: psychiatry, disordered eating specialists, addictions specialists, psychotherapists, and other practitioners who can assist students in “longer term” clinical work.
The R.N. Ellington Health and Counseling Center is located on campus between the Moseley and Loy Centers. Office hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday (last appointment scheduled for 4:00).

Counseling Services provides services on an appointment-only basis, except in the event of an emergency. To schedule an appointment with Counseling Services please call (336) 278-7280. If students have a counseling crisis or emergency, they should contact Counseling Services during normal business hours (Monday-Friday- 8:00 am until 5:00 pm) or Campus Safety and Security at (336) 278-5555 in the evenings and on weekends. There is always a counselor on call (while residence halls are open) for students in crisis.
Student visits to the Counseling Center are free of charge. However, students who must miss a scheduled appointment with Counseling Services should call ahead to cancel or reschedule the appointment. There will be a $ 25.00 charge for “no shows” for appointments which have not been canceled or rescheduled prior to the appointment. This charge will be added to the student account.
The Health & Counseling Center staff welcomes phone calls from parents. Please note that student health and counseling records are confidential and can only be released with the signed permission of the student.
