What to Bring

Do you know what to bring (and what NOT to bring) when you come to campus on August 29? Here are some tips that should make packing a bit easier.

For some of your bigger items, keep in mind a Wal-Mart, Target, Best-buy and Bed, Bath & Beyond, are all conveniently located in Burlington.

Absolutely do not forget
  • Extra-long twin sheets, pillow, blankets and comforter
  • Alarm clock, lamp, flashlight and small trash can
  • Plastic bucket or tray for shampoo, soap, toothpaste and other toiletries
  • Flip Flops, a robe, towels and washcloths
  • Sewing kit
  • Laundry basket/bag and detergent
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Band-Aids, aspirin, allergy medicine
  • Umbrella
Stuff that's not allowed on campus
  • Candles
  • Microwaves, toaster ovens, coffee makers and other  open-coil heating devices
  • Pets (except fish)
  • Ceiling fans
  • Track lighting
  • Charcoal or gas grill
  • Amplifiers
  • Halogen lamps
  • Power tools
  • Incense
  • No firearms, fireworks, explosives or illegal drugs
Stuff you can live without (but you wouldn't be quite as happy!)
  • Pictures from home
  • Refrigerator (You can also rent a combination microwave-refrigerator from Elon; more information will arrive this summer.)
  • Munchies
  • Plates and utensils (for midnight pizza) and a mug for hot drinks
  • Popcorn
  • Hanging shoe rack and under-the-bed storage boxes (unless you're going to live in Chandler, Maynard or Colclough. They have drawers under the bed.)
  • Shelves and/or crates
  • Posters and poster tack putty (no nails allowed)
  • TV, VCR or DVD player, answering machine, your favorite music and a stereo
  • Your address book, stationery and stamps
Stuff you might not have thought of
  • Quarters for laundry and vending machines
  • Beanbag chair
  • Plants
  • Aquarium (10 gallon maximum)
  • Lawn chair, sunscreen and sunglasses (for beautiful springtime days)
  • Boots (for rainy springtime days)

For more information visit the Residence Life web site

The Residence Life staff encourages you to contact your roommate and discuss who is bringing the stereo, carpet, etc., so you do not have two of everything. You will receive roommate contact information in July 6.
