First-Year Students

What to Expect

Unpacking on move-in day

Move-in day is an exciting day on Elon's campus.  The New Student Orientation and Residence Life staffs will be working together on move-in day to provide all the information that you will need. Look for signs that will direct you. As a part of your check-in, you will receive a schedule of the events for the first few days and information on discounts from local merchants.  During orientation, Elon will also host a number of local banks ready to set up accounts for new students.

Rest assured, we will not leave you floundering!  Every member of our team will be able to answer your questions and/or direct you to someone who can address any concerns you may have. For example, you'll meet Orientation Leaders, who are upperclass students who will help you move in, answer questions and help get you acclimated to Elon.  Your Orientation Group will consist of about 15 students, led by an Orientation Leader. You will learn about each other and the campus.

Convocation
The Elon University New Student Convocation (held Under the Oaks for fall new students and indoors for spring new students) is your first official function as a college student. At Convocation, students, parents and faculty are introduced to each other as a community. Because this is such an important event in your college career, appropriate dress is required.  Neat sport clothes (such as sundresses, slacks and button-down shirts) will do just fine.

The New Student Orientation office is here to get all of your questions answered, so please call us at the Orientation Office (336) 278-7777 or e-mail us at compass@elon.edu.
