First-Year Students

First-year student Orientation runs Friday-Monday. Throughout the weekend, you will attend several sessions with your group and your Orientation Leader in which you will learn about how to be academically successful at Elon, how to get involved in student organizations, and how to immerse yourself in the Elon community. Each night during Orientation, Elon will host a social event for the first-year class that will give you the opportunity to meet people from all across campus—not just in your Orientation group or Residence Hall. Participating in Orientation will lay the foundation for life at Elon!

After Orientation weekend is over, you will still meet with your group once a week throughout the Fall Semester in Elon 101. Elon 101 is a one credit-hour course taught by your academic advisor and a student teaching assistant. This course will focus on academic components like completing the first-year core, selecting courses for your Spring Semester, and creating a graduation plan complete with coursework and Elon Experiences. Your academic advisor will continue to help you throughout your time at Elon, until you declare your major and are assigned a new advisor in that department.

Transfer Students

Transfer students coming to Elon with prior academic credits from another 4-year or 2-year institution will participate in New Student Orientation from Friday - Monday. Transfer students will be in an Orientation group with other transfer students and an Orientation Leader who has been specially trained to answer questions unique to the transfer student population.

Even though transfer students already have college experience, Orientation will help you become acclimated to life at Elon. From navigating logistics like transferring course credits and work experience, to getting involved in a new social setting, Orientation will make sure your transition into the Elon community is smooth and seamless. Each night during Orientation, Elon will host a social event for the first-year class that will give you the opportunity to meet people from all across campus—not just in your Orientation group or Residence Hall. Participating in Orientation will lay the foundation for life at Elon!

International Students

International students arrive on Tuesday and begin an international students’ orientation program offered jointly through the Isabella Cannon Global Education Center and New Student Orientation. Because international students may have unique logistical needs, this extra time on campus will help make sure you are confident and ready to begin classes. The Global Education Center will be your primary resource for the days leading up to Orientation.

From Friday – Monday, international students will participate in New Student Orientation along with the rest of the first-year class.
