   Dean Jana Lynn Patterson

    Faculty Advisor for SGA

Dean Jana Lynn Patterson serves as the faculty advisor to SGA. Dean Patterson has served with the Elon University Division of Student Life since September 1986 and is currently the Assistant Vice President for Student Life and Associate Dean of Students. As assistant vice president and associate dean, she serves as the chief administrator for Health and Counseling Services, oversees Personal Health Programs and Community Well-Being, including Substance Education. Dean Patterson coordinates crisis response at the divisional and university level. Dean Patterson also serves as a liaison with the Town of Elon. Her favorite assignment though is as the SGA Advisor.
Dean Patterson’s educational background is in psychology and educational administration. She holds a Bachelor's degree in psychology from NC State University and a M.Ed. degree in Counseling/Student Development Administration from UNC Greensboro. She is a Doctoral Candidate at Northcentral University where she her cognate concentration is Industrial/Organizational psychology. Her research interests include the differences in values and preferred leadership attributes between generational cohort groups.
On a community level, Dean Patterson serves on several community task forces and committees. She has held leadership positions with the Alamance County Arts Council and the Alamance Coalition against Drug Abuse. She is a graduate of Leadership Alamance and has also served on the Leadership Team at Western Alamance Middle School and as a parent representative to the Middle School Task Force. She has also served as a high school exam proctor and volunteer middle school tennis coach.
In her spare time, Dean Patterson enjoys spending time with her husband, John, and son, Greg. Greg recently graduated from Methodist University where he majored in Accounting and played on the Men's Tennis team.
