Camerata

Dr. Stephen Futrell, director

(MUS 1050) Membership in Camerata is by audition only and is on an annual basis. The audition consists of a prepared solo of the student’s choice and sight-singing. The prepared solo should be an art song, aria or some other song of the cultivated genre. Camerata studies and performs quality, cultivated literature from all stylistic periods and cultures, and occasionally includes popular genres. Emphasis is on vocal technique, striving for artistry, style and score study, performance practice and diversity of literature. Camerata meets Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, 12:30-1:40.

University Chorale

Dr. Gerald Knight, director

(MUS 1051)  The Chorale is open to all Elon University students and membership does not require an audition. A typical program for this ensemble will be diverse and include music from several different traditions/cultures. Emphasis is on vocal technique, development of an awareness of and appreciation for diverse literature, and exploring how music contributes to the quality of life in any community. Chorale meets Mondays & Wednesdays, 2:40-3:20.

élan  (vocal jazz and a cappella)

(MUS 1052) Membership in élan is by audition only and is on an annual basis. The audition consists of a prepared solo of the student’s choice and sight-singing. The solo should be from the standard jazz or Broadway repertoire, a gospel song, or a pop song and should show off range, flexibility and expression. élan performs literature from the jazz, Broadway and pop genres. Emphasis is on vocal technique, striving for artistry, style, performance practice, mic technique, studio technique and concepts regarding entertainment versus artistry. élan meets Tuesdays & Thursdays, 2:30-4:10.
