Orchestra

Dr. Stephen Futrell, Director

The Elon University Orchestra began as early as 1916. Dr. Malvin Artley began directing the ensemble under the name Elon College Community Orchestra starting in 1962. The name was later changed to the Elon University Chamber Orchestra. Dr. David Bragg took over the ensemble as Director in 1985. In 2004, Dr. Thomas Erdmann began directing and the name was changed to Elon University Orchestra. Uplon Dr. Erdmann’s retirement in 2023, Dr. Stephen Futrell began directing the orchestra. The purpose of the orchestra however has remained since its inception; to provide students, community members and area professionals with an ensemble of high calibre that is dedicated to performing standard orchestra literature.
