Department Policies & Procedures

For policies and procedures, the Music Department Student Handbook is online. You can also find jury forms, departmental recital forms, and degree program check sheets. For detailed information about each major and minor program visit the degree programs page.

Please make it a habit to check the Music Department Bulletin Board across from Room 164 in the Center for the Arts for current announcements.

Make sure that your contact information is current with Kimberly Rippy (krippy@elon.edu).

Schedule your applied lesson time with your teacher as soon as you have your class schedule.

All Music Education students should check in with Dr. Knight at the beginning of the Fall semester, especially freshman music education majors.

All Music Departmental Recitals will be held on Tuesdays at 4:25 in Whitley Auditorium. Check the Music Department Bulletin Board for a complete schedule. Assume that we will be having a Departmental Recital each Tuesday.

You may have concert attendance requirements with some of your academic classes (ear training, applied lessons, etc.). However, it is expected that music students will support their colleagues by attending junior and senior recitals.

If you have not already done so, acquire some means of keeping track of your schedule (pda, calendar book, etc.). Place all of your performance dates and other events into your calendar at the beginning of the semester.

Ensemble Auditions

Auditions for choral and instrumental ensembles are held during the first few days of each semester for students in attendance at Elon University. Incoming or prospective students are not auditioned for any music ensembles before arriving in the fall semester.

Music Department Scholarships

Music Department Scholarships are talent based and awarded to students who declare as music majors. These scholarships are renewable up to four years. Scholarship is based upon an audition.

There are a limited number of Activities Scholarships available for participants in marching band. Contact Melody Causby (mcausby@elon.edu) for information regarding band activities scholarships.

Work Study opportunities are available for qualified students. For information regarding work study and other academic or need-based scholarships, grants, loans, etc., contact the Elon University Office of Financial Planning via the Admissions Office at 800.334.8448 or visit the Elon University admissions page relating to scholarships.
