As a robust environment for intellectual engagement, Elon University seeks to integrate the student body as a community that fosters appreciation, respect, and an open exchange on the values of difference and inclusion. At its core, our community values honesty, integrity, respect, and responsibility. We invite you to learn about this dynamic community you have joined — Are you ready?
Elon University values and celebrates the diverse backgrounds, cultures, experiences and perspectives of our community members. We embrace diversity in its broadest sense, including, but not limited to, diversity of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, nationality, race, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic standing and intellectual viewpoint.
Inclusive Excellence is the shared responsibility of Elon University members to act deliberately toward equitable outcomes through:
- collective strength derived from people of all identities, abilities and perspectives;
- pluralistic orientation reflected in pedagogies, programs and policies;
- and positive cross-cultural engagement at all times and in all places.
Central to Elon’s mission of transforming mind, body and spirit, Inclusive Excellence requires addressing systems in ways that achieve equity and help individuals thrive.
On my honor, I will uphold the values of Elon University: honesty, integrity, responsibility, and respect.
Every member of Elon University has the right to live and learn in an atmosphere of trust and support. Responsibility for maintaining these values in our community rests with each member. Values that promote this atmosphere include:
- Honesty: Be truthful in your academic work and in your relationships.
- Integrity: Be trustworthy, fair and ethical.
- Responsibility: Be accountable for your actions and your learning.
- Respect: Be civil. Value the dignity of each person. Honor the physical and intellectual property of others.
Elon’s students value an inclusive and intellectual climate. Students are expected to live out the Elon Honor Code and uphold the values of Honesty, Integrity, Responsibility, and Respect.
Elon University is one of the premier residential campuses focused on living, learning and personal development. By joining this community, you will enhance your academic achievements and campus connections. We aim to integrate the academic, residential and social experience of students, reconnecting living on campus with the core values and functions of the university.
Studies show that students who are involved in campus organizations are more likely to thrive academically and be fulfilled in their overall college experience. On the first Friday of the Fall semester, the Organization Fair will showcase the 260+ student clubs and organizations that Elon has to offer. Be thinking about your interests and what you’d like to learn more about when you arrive. We have just about everything – musical groups, religious organizations, academic societies, fraternities and sororities, political groups, service and civic engagement opportunities, and more!
A Sustainable Community
Sustainability explores the dynamic interconnections among environmental, social and economic systems in order to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainability is about more than protecting the environment. It is the balance of environmental, social and economic well-being. All three are needed for sustainability. Elon’s success in achieving its sustainability goals largely depends upon every member of the campus community taking an active role. It is our hope that all new students learn ways they can lead a sustainable life and help our community thrive.
On-campus student employment offers undergraduate degree-seeking students an opportunity to gain valuable work experience under the supervision and guidance of influential staff and faculty mentors. Student employees work in almost every department at Elon, contributing to operations, research, and services. To provide easy and equal access, departments post jobs on the Elon Job Network (EJN), a centralized online database for on-campus jobs, federal work-study jobs, internships and post-graduate jobs. That’s not all: student employment job fairs are held twice a year to connect department representatives with students seeking job opportunities. First-year students should be on the look-out for an email from the Student Professional Development Center in early August with instructions about applying for on-campus jobs.
