Move-In and New Student Orientation

What is the move-in schedule for fall 2020?

Due to the updated academic calendar, new students will be arriving at Elon on August 14 or August 15 to move into their assigned residence halls. Students will receive their move-in date and time on July 1, although they won’t know residence hall or roommate assignments until July 23. Elon’s first-year move-in has been expanded from one day to two to reduce congestion and support physical distancing in residence halls. For more information about the academic calendar and move-in dates visit Elon’s Ready & Resilient website.

Are the move-in dates and time slots random or assigned by class year?

Move-in times are based on whether a student is an incoming or returning student. Incoming students will move-in on August 14 or August 15. Students will receive their specific move-in day and time on July 1. Students moving into residence halls should not arrive prior to their appointment time, which will be provided by the Office of Residence Life and New Student Programs. Returning students will begin moving in on August 16.

What is New Student Orientation going to look like in fall 2020?

We’re developing a re-imagined New Student Orientation experience for all new students. Activities will occur after move-in August 14-15 through August 18. Classes begin on August 19. You will participate in a small group of 12-15 students and an Orientation Leader, a sophomore, junior or senior who has been trained to give you all the information you will need to be successful at Elon. Whether you are new to college, or just new to Elon’s campus, Orientation Leaders will make sure you feel confident and competent as you begin your Elon experience.

You will also have the chance to meet with your academic advisor, the person who will work with you to help plan for coursework and experiential learning until you declare a major. Once you declare a major, you will be assigned a new academic advisor in that disciplinary area.

In addition to making sure you are prepared to begin class and engage in academics at Elon, New Student Orientation will help you learn about campus life and cultural values at Elon. Elon’s values a strong, inclusive community in which students understand the importance of different identities and respectfully engage with each other across those differences. A full schedule of activities will be provided when you check-in August 14-15.

Will all students receive single rooms in fall 2020?

Students were able to request a single room on their housing application. If you didn’t request a single on your application and would now like to switch to a single, you may contact Residence Life at 336-278-7300 or residencelife@elon.edu. Due to the limited number of single-occupancy rooms on campus, we cannot guarantee all requests will be accommodated.
