Just-in-Time (JIT) Submissions

The NIH, and some other sponsors, use a Just-in-Time (JIT) process to collect certain administrative documents later in the review cycle—only after an application is being considered for funding. This allows researchers to provide updated and accurate information close to the time of award.

When requested by NIH (typically by email), applicants will submit JIT materials electronically through the eRA Commons system. When requested by another sponsor instructions will come in an email.

Common JIT elements include:

  • Other Support (active and pending) for senior/key personnel
  • IRB or IACUC approval documentation, if applicable
  • Human subjects training verification

Applicants should submit JIT information only when requested and ensure all details are current, accurate, and compliant with NIH policy. Any changes—such as new funding, altered effort, or updates to human or animal use—must be reported promptly to NIH.

For assistance preparing or submitting JIT materials, please contact the Office of Sponsored Programs at osp@elon.edu.
