Research/Creative Interests

Science teaching & learning, mindfulness in teaching and learning, soil carbon sequestration

What types of “data” do you commonly use?

Varies depending on the project. I enjoy qualitative data analysis, but use quantitative analysis (basic statistical testing) where appropriate.

What types of collaborations are you open to?

Interested in collaborating with students, faculty, and staff (especially those with interests in the natural environment, climate change mitigation, mindfulness practices, and equitable science education)

What agencies, organizations, or foundations do you have experience with to apply for grants?

  • NSF
  • Spencer Foundation

Student Qualifications

  • Environmental studies, environmental and ecological science, or environmental and sustainability studies majors or minors
  • Education majors
  • Psychology majors
  • I am particularly interested in mentoring students from historically marginalized populations.

A little bit more info:

As a student, I studied Anthropology, Earth and Environmental Studies, Spanish language, and Geology. My early research investigated how natural climate change affected sedimentation, flood patterns, and soil formation processes along the Delaware River Valley in New Jersey, and how public perceptions about water quality near a military base and dump site in Tennessee corresponded to measurable patterns of contamination. However, I soon became interested investigating questions related to teaching and learning and equity, especially in STEM disciplines. I am also fascinated by soils and their potential to help mitigate climate change. I live in Burlington with my husband Jay Rimmer, who works for the Truitt Center at Elon, and our three cats. My hobbies include gardening, permaculture design, foraging for wild edibles, and practicing herbalism.
