Research/Creative Interests
I do research in pure mathematics in the areas of algebra and and topology, more specifically knot theory and the study of braids. If you haven’t heard of this area of research, google “knot theory” and thank me later! I also make dance videos about my research and am interested in using dance as a communication tool to visualize abstract mathematics.
What types of “data” do you commonly use?
The data I mostly work with is in the form of collections of matrices (arrays of numbers or polynomials). The analysis I use would be techniques in linear algebra, for example to look for common eigenvectors shared by the collection of matrices.
What types of collaborations are you open to?
I am interested in working with students, faculty and/or staff. In addition to abstract math research, I am always looking for creative people to collaborate on videos to describe mathematics. This can include performers, dancers, musicians, videographers, video editors, you name it!
What agencies, organizations, or foundations do you have experience with to apply for grants?
- NSF
- Simons Foundation
- ICERM
Student Qualifications
- Math enthusiasts who are a math, stats, or computer science majors
- Math enthusiasts (any major) who are also dance enthusiasts
- Math enthusiasts (any major)
- Mathematically curious students who are not yet math enthusiasts
- Dance enthusiast students who are in STEM but not yet math enthusiasts
