Research/Creative Interests

I am interested in the impact of microfinance, particularly savings, on the behavior of people living in extreme poverty. I also research labor market experiences of young adult workers in the USA especially with respect to how non-cognitive skills and non-wage preferences affect workers’ choice of occupation.

Research/Creative Needs

I use secondary data – either public or client-provided. This involves extensive, time-consuming data cleaning and management in STATA or Python.

Mentoring Style

  • Typically one-on-one
  • Typically a lab-based model
  • One-on-one or in small groups, depending on the project
  • I typically work with multiple students; some of them are working on the same project

Currently looking for a student to apply and work in these programs:

  • Any program/opportunity
  • Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE)
  • Endowed Grant
  • Elon College Fellows
  • Honors Fellows
  • Lumen Prize application

I can mentor a student enrolled in 4998/4999 hours during these semesters:

  • Any semester

Student Qualifications

  • Students must have taken ECO 3300 prior to working with me. The exception would be those sophomores who intend to apply for Lumen and take ECO 3300 in their junior year.
  • I am particularly interested in mentoring students from historically marginalized populations. In economics, that includes women.
