Sophomore Business Fellows explore and network in NYC

Students experienced the Big Apple from April 8-10, 2024, with visits to more than a dozen corporate headquarters, an eclipse viewing, and an opportunity to catch a Yankees game.

Second-year Business Fellows explored the inner workings of leading firms in a three-day visit to New York City where they gained insights into the varied landscapes of finance and business.

A highlight of the Business Fellows trip was a networking event hosted by Jack Ryan, chief administrative officer at Rockefeller Capital Management. Business Fellows networked with nearly 20 alumni from various business organizations throughout the evening.

During the visit to the city, Fellows completed office tours, attended presentations, and spoke with company representatives.

“Visiting BlackRock Headquarters offered a rare glimpse into the world of high-stakes finance, enhancing my academic knowledge with real-world trading experience and invaluable networking with top industry professionals,” said Ben Sykes ’26 a finance and business analytics major from Lynnfield, Mass.

“We visited many companies including EY, PwC, BlackRock, KPMG, and Bloomberg,” said Mia Robinson ’26 an accounting major from Franklin, Mass. “We also got to network with Elon Alumni about their time at each of the companies and how their Elon experience contributed to their success at work.”

The experience clarified post-graduation paths for many of the students and highlighted the Elon network’s role in driving their success.

“We received the same advice multiple times. ‘Get your foot in the door rather than fixate on a job title’,” said Kaidyn Carroll ’26 a finance major from Phoenixville, Pa. “We learned that internal mobility is popular among the companies visited.”

“I learned that you are your own CEO,” said Em Orendorff ’26 a finance major from Annapolis, Md. “Watch after yourself, push yourself out of your comfort zone, and constantly chase improvements.”
