Conference presentations representing a global community of practitioners from educational institutions and community organizations

David Wong, associate professor of educational psychology and educational technology at Michigan State University, served as guest speaker for the second Global Education Symposium.

Allocco worked with Dr. Jennifer Ortegren (Middlebury College) to organize the full-day symposium, “Shifting Sites, Spaces and Selves: Analyzing Ethnographic Practices in South Asia Over Time,” which included 13 presenters and attracted a robust audience.

Elon faculty, staff, and students presented research on global engagement at national conferences.

Garner spend two months during the past summer conducting field research that included interviewing more than 20 women about their memories of political violence. 

Assistant Professor of Biology Jen Hamel and biology major and Elon College Fellow Alina Iwan ’19 presented research at Behaviour 2019, a joint meeting of the Animal Behavior Society and the International Conference on Ethology.

The generous gift from Lee C. Leckie ’98 and his wife, Angie, will establish a Global Engagement Scholarship, one of the top priorities of the Elon LEADS campaign.

This year’s symposium will feature David Wong, associate professor in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education at Michigan State University. Wong’s area of interest and expertise include intercultural competence, global learning, and the impact of study abroad experiences.

Gerry is spending the summer capturing the narratives and realities of South Indian migrants and their communities as part of her research as a Multifaith Scholar.
