The School of Communications will show 2005 alumnus Laith Majali’s film, “Captain Abu Raed,” at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 in McEwen 011.

School of Communications alumni will be holding a wisdom session at 2 p.m. on Nov. 7 in McEwen 011 as part of the Homecoming weekend festivities.

Two student representatives and the adviser of The Pendulum, Elon University’s weekly student newspaper, attended the Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Advisers fall convention in Kansas City, Mo., where they were awarded third place by the ACP for their online story package covering the 2008 election.

Anthony Hatcher, associate professor of communications, has published a chapter on Oral History in a new textbook on communication research methods.

The Sunshine Center reached out Oct. 21 to the coast of Carolina with its fall 2008 workshop titled, “North Carolina Sunshine Laws from the Capitol Building to the Courtroom.” Speakers explored key developments in the North Carolina General Assembly, including a bill to explore televising state government.

J. McMerty, the coordinator of video projects in the School of Communications, was part of a panel discussion at the fall College Media Advisers/Associated Collegiate Press convention in Kansas City, Mo., about taking college journalists to study abroad.

Assistant professor Peter Kiwitt in the School of Communications was elected to the Board of North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad Film Commission.

The cable news outlet included comments from Elon senior Olivia Hubert-Allen, featured Oct. 29, 2008, as part of an online student digest on CNN.com.

Tom Nelson, an associate professor of communications, presented a paper on the future of the book on Oct. 26 during the International Conference on the Book at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
