William Burpitt, associate dean for graduate and executive programs and professor of management, has produced, directed and managed radio and television stations. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He taught at Peace College and Meredith College before coming to Elon. At Meredith, he served as the M.B.A. director. | ![]() |
Judy Dulberg, MBA program coordinator, has worked with the MBA program since 2004. She is the program's main "go-to" person, handling advising and all administrative details of the MBA program. James L. Barbour, associate professor and chair of the Department of Economics, served as head of the Division of Business on the Alexandria campus of Louisiana State University before coming to Elon in 1990. He has also taught at the University of Kentucky and Transylvania University. He has worked as a consultant in forensic economics and as an economic researcher for the Kentucky Energy Cabinet. His academic interests include distributional ethics and the relationship between the church and the economy, particularly in the middle ages. | John J. Burbridge, Jr. is a professor of operations management, supply chain and logistics. Prior to joining the full-time faculty at Elon, he served as dean of the Love School of Business for 11 years. He has published articles that have appeared in journals such as the International Journal of Electronic Government Research, Journal of Global Information Management, Journal of the Academy of Business Education, Human Systems Management and Business Insights. Dr. Burbridge has been a member of the faculty at Loyola College in Maryland, Rutgers University and Lehigh University. At Loyola, he was director of the David D. Lattanze Center for Executive Studies in Information Systems, which was ranked first in the country by CIO magazine. He holds bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in industrial engineering from Lehigh and worked in the industry as a senior operations research analyst, project director and distribution executive for BOC Group, a global firm. Jayoti "Tina" Das, a professor of economics, teaches in the undergraduate and M.B.A. programs. Her academic interests include international trade and finance and industrial organization. Her research interests include intellectual property rights and product quality issues in an international context. Dr. Das received bachelor's and master's degrees from Presidency College in Calcutta, India, and a master's degree and doctorate from the University of Cincinnati. Cassandra DiRienzo, an associate professor of economics and associate dean of the Love School of Business, received a bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University and a master's and doctorate in economics from North Carolina State University. Her research interests include applications of econometrics and nonparametric statistics to global economic and business issues such as corruption, terrorism, tourism, environmental protection and diversity. Lawrence L. Garber, Jr. is an associate professor of marketing at the Love School of Business and a visiting associate professor at IMT Ghaziabad, India. He holds a Ph.D. in business administration with a concentration in marketing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an M.B.A. from Yale University, an A.B. from Brown University, and has attended the Parsons School of Design for illustration and the Cleveland Institute of Art for painting. Previously, he taught at Appalachian State University, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) and UNC at Chapel Hill. Prior to entering academe, Dr. Garber was Senior Analyst in Marketing Sciences at Glaxo Pharmaceuticals, now GlaxoSmithKline, and BBDO Advertising; was for several years a freelance illustrator in New York and was Director of Admissions at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Ohio. His research interests include visual information processing and persuasion, marketing communication and branding, nonprofit and arts marketing, marketing education and the visual presentation of statistical data. He is on the editorial review boards of the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, and the International Journal of Business Insights and Transformation. | ![]() |
| Mary Gowan is a professor of management and the former dean of the Love School of Business. She has extensive consulting experience with private and public organizations in the areas of leadership, human resource management and organizational development. Her clients have included Kingsdown, Lockheed Martin, Harris Teeter and BDO Seidman as well as the cities of Charlotte, N.C., and El Paso, Texas. Her research focuses on corporate reputation and career transitions. She is the co-author of Human Resource Management: Managing Employees for Competitive Advantage. Dr. Gowan is a member of the Board of Directors for the Society for Human Resource Management Foundation and the Institute for Sustainable Development. She has a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Georgia. Prior to joining Elon, she was the associate dean for undergraduate programs at George Washington University. Dr. Gowan has been a visiting faculty member at the University of Maryland and the Helsinki School of Economics and Business in Finland and in Korea, and on the faculty of UCF, UNC Charlotte, and UT El Paso. | ![]() |
Neeraj J. Gupta, assistant professor of finance, has a doctorate in finance from the University of Connecticut and is a CFA charterholder. He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Delhi and an M.B.A. from Babson College. He has over ten years of finance experience in Asia, Europe, North America and South America, having worked for Nestlé, Xerox and Claridges Investments (a boutique asset management firm). Dr. Gupta has taught various finance courses - Principles of Finance, Corporate Finance, and Investments - to undergraduate and M.B.A. students at both Elon and UConn. He has led study abroad business courses to the Pacific Rim (Hong Kong SAR, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Australia) and to the Indo-Gulf (India and Dubai). His research interests are in investments, corporate finance, financial planning and international finance with ongoing research in sustainable investing, designing efficient retirement portfolios, valuing intangible investments, fund-flows & returns in emerging markets, and valuing long-dated options. She has also been involved as an events manager in the catering industry and is currently involved with the Elon Enterprise Academy initiative. Linda Poulson, is an associate professor of accounting and chair of the Department of Accounting. She has also served on the faculties of Regis University in Denver, Colo., and Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Mo. She holds a B.S. in Accounting, a Master of Taxation degree from the University of Denver, and a Ph.D. in Accounting from St. Louis University. Dr. Poulson was awarded the Patricia Roberts Harris Doctoral Fellowship and the KPMG Foundation Doctoral Fellowship. She is a charter member of the Ph.D. Project, which promotes diversity among the faculties at collegiate schools of business. Susan L. Manring, associate professor of management, spent 20 years as an organizational consultant before joining the Elon faculty in 1996. Her areas of interest include large-scale systems change, organizational learning, high-performance teams and contingency models of leadership. A major focus of her research, consulting and published work involves the motivation, retention and productivity of technical professionals. Kevin J. O'Mara is a professor of management. His primary teaching responsibilities are in the areas of strategy and process technology management. His research interest is mass customization. Michael Rodriguez, assistant professor of marketing, teaches professional selling, principles of marketing and customer relationship management courses. He earned his Ph.D. in technology management from Stevens Institute of Technology, where he won the Most Outstanding Dissertation Award in 2009. He has been published in the Journal of Selling and Major Account Management and the International Journal of Innovation and Business Research. Before coming to Elon, Dr. Rodriguez worked on Wall Street for 14 years selling market data and trading platforms to investment banks, asset managers and hedge funds. | Richard "Barth" Strempek, associate professor of entrepreneurship, held executive positions with major transportation and information technology companies for 15 years before coming to Elon. He served as director of corporate planning for CSX Corp., a $10 billion conglomerate. He has been involved in a number of start-up enterprises in the areas of information technology, fluid control and music. Wonhi Synn, professor of finance, teaches corporate finance and investment in the undergraduate and graduate programs. His areas of academic interest include enterprise valuation, performance evaluation, market innovations and business education. He has recently published articles on government sponsored enterprises (GSEs), online stock trading, bankruptcy prediction, and various business curriculum and pedagogical issues. He taught winter term courses on global markets in London and in China/Hong Kong. Matthew Valle, professor of management, is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and a former Air Force pilot. He received an M.S. in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas, an M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Florida State University. Dr. Valle has more than 70 refereed publications in journals such as Human Relations, the Journal of Managerial Issues, the Journal of Management Inquiry and the Journal of Small Business Strategy. He is a frequent facilitator and presenter for the Elon ExecEd program and has consulted with Boeing, Raytheon, Bombardier Aerospace/Learjet, Gates Rubber Co. and Conagra, among others.
