If you give respect, you get respect.

Lawrence Slade is a lifelong resident of Elon and a well-loved local leader. Some of his proudest work has been supporting Black businesses. In 1977, Slade opened his barber shop on Rauhut Street, buying and officially owning the property so that he could pass it down for generations.

In addition to his work for local businesses, Lawrence served on the Elon Town Council for 20 years, making him the longest-serving town alderman and earning him the honor of having a park named after him.

Lawrence has done remarkable work for his community, setting an example for the generations to come.
