Open doors for other people and notice what perspective is missing.

Originally from Charlotte, NC, Julie Budd immersed herself in the community of Alamance County upon moving here. She was involved in the church and local activities. Although her son was involved in Boy Scouts and she sought out involvement elsewhere, she faced barriers to getting engaged, and the community sometimes felt closed off.

Community is very important to her, so not being able to be involved was a struggle. She stands up for what is right even when there is opposition. She was turned down from the Human Relations Commission for her involvement in an anti-war petition and Alamance Peace Action. They believed she was too involved in peace initiatives, but she stood by her beliefs.

Julie’s work in our community encourages others to make the change and encourage diversity.
