Dejuana Bigelow was born and raised in Alamance County and still lives in Burlington. Bigelow attended Smith Elementary, Turrentine, Williams, and graduated at Cummings High School. Dejuana saw diversity once she entered high school.

Dejuana used her voice to prevent youth violence and related risk behaviors. Dejuana was a community advocate 10 years prior to 2020. Through her role as a community and police liaison, after the George Floyd incident happened it inspired and allowed her to put together a rally in North Park on May 30th.

Bigelow Ran for City Council in 2021, but lost in the final round. She ran again in 2023 and won, showing that persistence and trying again can pay off. Dejuana Bigelow was the first African American woman on Burlington City Council.
