George Byrd
You have to have faith.
George Byrd was born and raised in Alamance County, where he spent his childhood playing baseball and enjoying family cookouts. He is deeply grateful for the adults who guided him, helping him become the best man he could be.
Growing up during a time of segregation and division, Byrd saw firsthand the impact it had on his community. His mother, however, encouraged him to bridge these divides. As a child, he had a love for comic books. He recalls a moment when his mother noticed a young white boy at a comic book stand and urged Byrd to sit and read with him. In that moment, he connected with someone who shared his passion, learning an early lesson in courage and openness. His mother’s guidance taught him not to be afraid and to embrace challenges.
Byrd served as a Chairman of the Burlington Planning and Zoning Committee for 12 years, helping Burlington grow and develop. Byrd wanted to do something that would make the community a better place to live with more opportunities for people to thrive.
Byrd believes strongly that you need to have faith. His love for God inspired him to help his community. He was deeply involved in his church as a Deacon as well as the Sunday school Superintendent. He wanted to make church a welcoming place for all. He is proud of his church for its Get Out to Vote effort, inspiring people in the community to make their voice heard. Byrd continues to serve his community, trying to do God’s work at all times.
